We had a group (Sustrans) ride from Kelvingrove to Parkhead, and managed to find a myriad of different ways to travel the last section.

Now if you want to see a successful project that really has increased cycle use in Glasgow just look around the the cycle racks in the city centre - almost every location has bikes parked during the day. We started doing that in 1995 and some locations saw 30+% increases in parked bikes (that went home at night!) year on year. Outside the RSAMD is a 48 bike covered parking facility most days it has at least 30 bikes - some days it's even full. just next to that is a rusty D lock, stubbornly jammed around a bollard and resisting several attempts to cut it off. In 1995 the ONLY bike coming to RSAMD was locked up on that bollard. Now there ar up to 48 bikes parked - almost a 5000% increase in cycling in 18 years.

Keith Brown - send your TS guys along and check this one out Want to increase cycle use - than well sited public cycle parking in the city centre has certainly delivered - just think how many Sheffield stands you could have installed for £480,000! It's a start, and it's an opportunity to learn what works and what doesn't work in Scotland, and to make the next project better, and the next, and the next, and the next ...Paul Milnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02451232940757288530noreply@blogger.com
