It was originally concieved as a route from the city centre to the exhibition centre and "eventually" to the Glasgow Harbour housing development(http://ecowarriorme.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/clyde-fastlink-revolution-in-public.html). The only part built at that time was the section on the Broomielaw and the current scheme is a way of using their shiny new bit of tarmac.EcoWarriorMehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15694782196970623283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805138158441245701.post-90922104623564964092014-01-20T17:40:37.098+00:002014-01-20T17:40:37.098+00:00Please everyone, send in objections (perhaps based...Please everyone, send in objections (perhaps based on the segregated lane arrangments being contrary to the Council's claim that it has ambitions for Glasgow to be a 'cycling city'?). It may seem like a waste of time, and they're obviously bent on pushing the thing through come hell or high water (that'll be hell for cyclists, obviously), but it's only by hearing that there are large numbers who pay attention (and some of them are most probably voters) will they ever start thinking these things through properly.

(And you don't have to be against public transport improvements to object to these specific ones - what would be wrong with normal bus lanes? Bus-and-cycle lanes may be nasty things, but not nearly as horrible as these complicated arrangements.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3805138158441245701.post-45675602958683991342014-01-17T21:45:01.500+00:002014-01-17T21:45:01.500+00:00The "Skalextric" bit is so that they can...The "Skalextric" bit is so that they can have a central island bus stop without having to have special buses with off-side doors. Still daft.

If they had gone with guided busway, much maligned as it is around these parts (Cambridge), one advantage would have been that it would have taken up less space. Of course, they probably still wouldn't have turned over that space to cycling. We only got the maintenance track for the busway tarmaced to be useable as a cycleway after a lot of shouting and a fair amount of Sustrans funding- and the unplanned nature of it shows at the junctions.Alhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06817806128052425511noreply@blogger.com
